Project Management

The effective Project Manager possesses a host of technical and relational skills with generous dose of patience and perception.  The adept Project Manager has to mesh the requirements of a project with the strengths of her team while balancing the possibilities and expectations of all the stakeholders into a venture that produces results.  With many projects under my belt, including multi-million dollar real estate transactions and marketing materials for flagship products, I have proven experience balancing all that is required of a project manger.

...since the beginning

"Plan the work, work the plan" was the mantra I was raised on.  BUT, and it's a big but, I always felt that this scenario was missing a key aspect of project planning--flexibility.  With the speed of information and technical advances, to say nothing of global pandemics and tumultuous world situations, projects need to change based on the fluid opportunities and limitations that present themselves through the life of a project.

Today's workplace demands people who are flexible enough to adjust to changing needs and adept at fostering communication amongst all stakeholders. A team needs a project manager who encourages and inspires all stakeholders to lead with their strengths, and who motivates teams while capitalizing on agency and communication.

Early in my private sector career, I pioneered the "projectification" of marketing materials for HRW. Instead of having my section of the marketing department in a year-long scramble in a fight for resources to meet emergency deadlines that popped up seemingly unexpectedly, I created a year-long project plan that tracked multiple marketing pieces through copywriting, marketing, packaging, events, editorial, and sales departments. After initial success with the plan, I presented my idea to the Director of Marketing and designed a year-long plan for the company's top producing product lines.  I earned an Award for Marketing Excellence for my initiative, vision, and follow-through on this project. As an experienced educator, I work with multiple teams of young people and adults to acheive project goals. With proven leadership, I have increased production, increased stakeholder satisfaction, decreased stress and brought the leverage of logic and data into the conversation.

Seeing is Believing

You will see this motto in many of my materials.  It's a truism that expresses my belief and experience.
Sometimes, one can only see clearly from the imagination.  What could be the possibilities?  If I can envision an outcome in my mind's eye, I can choose to make it come into reality through thoughtful planning and strategic resourcing.  Some people need to see physically before they believe.  Data, facts, and numbers are valuable resources to draw on when making plans and planning projects.

My job, as a project manager, is to help people see the possibilities and the pitfalls, before either becomes a reality.
